My ISP is all over the place…literally. Several times now when I’ve checked my IP address, I’ve gotten results for cities at least two or three hours away. I wonder why. Oh well — this just means I can stalk people without them knowing who I really am or where I am really from…(well, except for you, faithful blog readers, because now you know.)
Today I planned to knock out some CSS and HTML books, but a headache knocked me out instead. I awoke with what I think can best be described as a migraine, and two ibuprofen failed to get rid of it, so I hobbled around for the better part of the day until it started to clear up and a friend adjusted my back and neck. (Seriously, you would think I twist myself into pretzel shapes all day with as bad as my back gets. One shoulder is always higher than the other and apparently I hold my neck at a really weird angle to compensate.) So with book-catching-up out the window, I ended up learning some basic jQuery…stuff? would that be the right word?…tonight instead. It was pretty interesting. (Here’s a very basic example if you want to see. jQuery controls what the last three links do.)
I also found a really nice layout in Sports Illustrated (not mine) that I want to try and duplicate for the web. The only problem is that this magazine has a sample fragrance of Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men fragrance inside, and while it sits on my desk it emanates a thick, powerful scent that smells like baby powder on steroids. The tagline is “Hard to Resist.” I suggest they change the tagline to “Hard to Resist Throwing Across the Room.” Ugh.
I should probably try to write a one-topic post next time. It seems I’ve fallen into the habit of writing about anything and everything in one fell swoop, so mayhap (my favorite word — getting off-topic again) I should change things up and try to keep one train of thought. (I’m not really this ADD. At least, I don’t think I am.) Stay tuned.
p.s. I knew I forgot something. Mat Kearney’s new album is available for preorder — I went off my budget and bought it today, and the instant mp3 download that comes with it is really good. Just saying. :)

Not to be to "know it all" but having worked for a while in the server world I would say that the servers dispensing IP address are load balanced. That means when you connect you are sent to the server that is least busy. They would be all over, that is why your address always changes. Although, it should be in the same range because the ISP can only own so many addresses.
ReplyDeleteOops, each server owns a range of addresses I meant.
ReplyDeleteI am not quite sure how you seem to have some of the same mental and physical quirks that I have. When I was in art school we were tasked with painting "Mondrian" type painting. I was working on mine and my teacher came over and told me my lines were CROOKED. That is when I noticed every tilted to the left. From that day on I used a T square. Then years later I was at Physical Therapy and the therapist told me to hold my head straight and I said I was, she said I was not. So evidently I have walked around with a head tilted to one side all my life. Just enough of a tilt to make me crummy at all sports and unable to walk or draw a straight line.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to get a little lost... should I respond to this post and your other comments on this post, or that last post??? Oh no... speaking of head-aches...
ReplyDeleteI think I actually kind of understand CSS. I build a web page once with Dream weaver. ha ha! That reminds me of that scene on "The Wedding singer" when they go out on the double date and Adam Sandler is like "I got a bond once.." Anyway...
I had to open two windows so I can look back at your last comments and write here!
I like the random posts anyways. It helps me pay attention. Sometimes when someone is talking to me, I totally phase out and in my head I'm thinking, "uh oh, I wasn't listening... quick! grab on to something they are saying and make a relevant comment!"
The classes are really interesting actually! I am having deep spiritual revelations while reading the Social Studies 11 text book. Good stuff! Maybe I will blog about it. I love English too. Right now we are doing Essay's on "The Matrix". I'm looking forward to reading them.
The Geology? Well, I took a first year geography class for my pre-requisites, and it was all really interesting... except geology! It was like 20 different pictures of rocks that all looked exactly the same and it was like "this is called 'chert' it is more porous than philicade..." so boring!! And I remember one guy who was so excited about it, and I was just in awe of that.
I will have to check out the new Matt Kearney! We love him in this house...
(now you've done it... let the long posts begin!)
Aunt Terri — ohh, okay, that makes sense. For a while the IP address returned the same city (which was right near us) so I thought it would always be that, but then it started to vary and I didn't know why.
ReplyDeleteThat is so weird that you are also…how to put this without it sounding bad?…crooked. (oh well, so am I. :P) I tilt to the right though. Well my shoulder anyway; my neck goes the other way. Bleh. Have you been to the chiropractor? (I love chiropractors.)
Thomas (am I right? haha) — cue the long reply. Well, you could have broken your comment into two and posted half on each entry, but, that would've probably been a bit difficult.
That's cool you've used DW. (I haven't seen "The Wedding Singer" so that quote was lost on me, unfortunately.) They taught us that in school, but I eventually went back to my bare bones text editor because DW was clunky on my machine.
I think I have a solution to the random post: instead of writing one long post filled with different things, I can write shorter individual entries for each topic. Actually, now that I see that written out, I realize that may just be more of a hassle.
That sounds really neat about the essays…and you should blog about the social studies textbook, for sure. I'd like to hear about it.
Wow…now I can understand why you don't like geology. That's impressive you still remember the description of that one rock, or was it just one of those things that was so boring that you knew you would never forget it?
Definitely check out the new Mat Kearney — it sounds like the album is going to be good.
Did you just guess at my real spelling? Most people really don't see the connection... I guess your not most people!
ReplyDeletewow... so you just do websites in straight code? that is crazy. I've never actually seen anyone do that. the only way I could do it was I would split the screen in DW so I could see the html and the... other stuff... and I would just copy and past the code where it looked nice on the un-code section. My brain doesn't absorb that sort of stuff.
You should watch the wedding singer, it's hilarious.
Actually, I just made up half of that stuff about rocks. The second rock name was completely fictitious. Sorry about that.
If I could comment on the weird neck stuff... it really is interesting how those things go genetically. My brother and I both had club foot when we were born, but opposite feet. I would go into all the details, but really not necessary.
Hey I was wondering if it would be okay if I added you on facebook? I hope that's not too weird...
Hope you had a great Easter!
I'm just great at deducing names, haha. No not really. After seeing your screen name a few times I realized it sounded a lot like Thomas spelled phonetically, and wondered if that was the case.
ReplyDeleteThe split screen in DW is nice, I like that about it. ("other stuff"…probably CSS? see, you know more than you think!) But yeah, I really like to code by hand, it's fun.
Ha, ha. Well you had me fooled about the rock description, it sounded genuine to me. Even if it isn't true it's still pretty funny. :P
Are you and your brother twins? That sounds really unusual, wow. It is funny how things work genetically.
Sure, you can add me on FB, that's not too weird. :) Hope you have a great Easter as well!
